Rumor has it that the majority of ATI cards do not work well with shadows, but please ask around and do some research to find out for sure. You can enable shadows in Phoenix by using the Ultra graphics setting (Edit -> Preferences -> Graphics -> slider to Ultra) then check the Enable Shadows at Edit -> Preferences -> Phoenix -> -> Advanced Graphics. Unfortunately on that page it does not tell us which video cards would be ideal for running shadows. Please be sure to check the system requirements to make sure you have the right kind of computer to run Second Life.
